McWilliam's Wines Stars at Top Regional, State and International Wine Shows

The 2010 McWilliam's Hanwood Estate Shiraz has beaten wines from across the country to claim a Top Gold medal and two trophies at one of Australia's most acclaimed regional wine shows, the 2011 Riverina Wine Show. The wine picked up the Trophy for Best Shiraz and Trophy for Best Popular Premium Red Wine and was one of many highlights at the show for McWilliam's Wines, which claimed a total of seven trophies.

The future release 2009 Brand's Laira Patron Cabernet Sauvignon took home Top Gold and three trophies at the same show, including the Trophy for Best Still Wine of Show, while another future release flagship wine 2009 McWilliam's 1877 won the Trophy for Best Red Blend. Brand's Laira also picked up gold medals for the 2009 Brand's Laira Blockers Cabernet Sauvignon and 2009 Brand's Laira Tall Vine Shiraz (Top Gold).

The Chief Judge of the 2011 Riverina Wine Show, Ben Edwards, who is co-contributor to James Halliday's Wine Companion and President of Sommeliers Australia praised McWilliam's Wines for an "exceptional" show.

Among other gold medal winners at the show were the 2009 Lillydale Estate Chardonnay (which also won gold at the 2011 Yarra Valley Wine Show recently), 2011 Evans & Tate Metricup Road Sauvignon Blanc, 2009 Barwang The Stables Cabernet Sauvignon and 2009 Zeppelin Amelie Shiraz from the Echelon portfolio. The 2008 McWilliam's Morning Light Botrytis Semillon also picked up another gold medal to bring its wine show tally to four trophies and seven gold medals.

On the other side of the country, the 2009 Brand's Laira Patron Cabernet Sauvignon collected another gold medal at the 2011 Perth Royal Wine Show last week. At the same show, the currently available 2009 Barwang Cabernet Sauvignon also took home a second gold medal for the year, while the 2010 Barwang Granite Track Riesling picked up gold.

Across the globe, the 2006 McWilliams 1877 Cabernet Shiraz and 2008 Brand's Laira Blockers Cabernet Sauvignon were both awarded gold medals at the prestigious 2011 Mundus Vini Wine Show in Germany.

The accolades continue what has been an extraordinary year on the wine show circuit for McWilliam's Wines, picking up trophies and gold medals for wines right across its portfolio at some of the most acclaimed shows in Australia and internationally.
